Types of training
Primarily, A Place to Belong provides training for agency workers in community inclusion. A Place to Belong has trained support workers, coordinators, managers and government workers across the disability and mental health sector.
Modules of training range from two hours to sixteen hours.
Training can be provided either in Brisbane or outside the Brisbane area (provided air fares and accommodation are costed in). A Place to Belong has trained people in organisations in many areas including Newcastle, Lismore, Mackay, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Mount Isa, Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Dysart, Roma, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Training themes and topics
Key topics which are typically included in training workshops are:
- What does it mean to belong?
- How can we facilitate a person’s belonging?
- What are some strategies and models we can use to support inclusion?
- How do we find people in the community who want to be involved?
- Risk management and duty of care in inclusion
- Values and inclusion
